Success in marketing to consumers is a pattern of research it ... try it ... do more of what works...stop doing what doesn't. Lets look briefly at each step. Research it. Research allows you to gain an understanding of your market, who are they, where are they, how many of them are there, and what is important to them at the time. Marketing without at least some of this knowledge is nothing but an exercise in randomness. Try it. Good marketing often uses the principle of A/B testing, or intentionally using different messages to see which one brings the best response. It may seem like an unnecessary step but not testing means that you may dump a lot of money into an A message when its B that the market really responds to . Do more of what works...stop doing what doesn't. Amazing though it may seem, many companies plow ahead with marketing campaigns that aren't working mostly because they fail to setup any method of testing response. The measure of success is general at best. Testing, and then response based on the testing, is critical to marketing success. | |
