What's Important Look. We all know that what you do is important and that you have a story to tell. Here’s the bad news: When it comes to your website, it really isn’t about you. When it gets right down to it, it’s all about them - the customer, the visitor to your site, the person who has to try to make sense of it all to find what they want. If you start from this point of view, you will find that your website design can be a thousand times better than if you start with a focus on you. Why? Because you’ve taken the time to put yourself in your customer’s shoes, something they will deeply appreciate and, ideally, show their loyalty by bringing more business to you than to your competitors.

Things You Can Do Start with a site map. A site map is a hierarchical (meaning that some things are more important than others) listing that categorizes where every bit of information will reside in your site. Here’s your opportunity to shine. In creating a site map, place the things your customer will find most important at the top levels. Organize the details or subcategories below these most important items, making sure to create a category or home for everything that you might want to house and display on your website. Organize it all by using a flow chart or an outline, or do what we love to do: use Microsoft Excel to place the top category items in a column across the top and then list the subcategories below.
