Websites: The Importance of a Website
What's Important While we are not quite ready to make the statement that a website is absolutely essential for your success, we are completely ready to make the statement that if you operate without a website, you are putting yourself at a distinct disadvantage. Here's Why Access to the web is now widely available with most access now either wireless or high speed. Because it’s easy, available and a good experience, it is a strongly preferred way to find information. Whether it’s looking up a phone number, checking hours of operation or actually making a purchase, it is simply where people go to find out about you. Not being there is the equivalent of a food maker not being on a grocer’s shelf. Using the grocer analogy, when someone is looking for your brand of spaghetti and your space on the shelf is empty, they are simply going to pick your competitor’s brand. Once that happens, good luck getting them back unless, of course, your competitor makes really bad spaghetti. You get the idea. When someone is looking for what you make or do, you simply must be there on the shelf, aka the World Wide Web.
Things You Can DoIf you are not online, get there. If you have to, use a web-in-a-box approach using tools like Yahoo Site Builder or Google Sites. Both are low cost, or in the case of Google Sites, no cost, and can at least get you online in a hurry. Keep in mind, however, that getting visitors there and keeping them there are entirely separate matters. With the web evolving the way it is, a strong online experience is simply becoming expected now. Real harm can be done by having a poorly organized or visually weak website.
