Websites: Content Management

What's Important The W.L. Gaiennie Company is deeply committed to the application of technology in our processes and in how we work. One of the technologies that we strongly recommend is website content management systems that allow ordinary users to manage and maintain the copywriting, images and even pages on their site without the need for the technical barrier of a webmaster. We love webmasters, but, quite frankly, the idea of filtering content through a person who has to put it on an already long list of TO DOs is a dated and unnecessary process. Content management allows the owner of the information - typically the person who has the best handle of the relevance of the information anyway - to keep that information current on the website by opening a page editor that looks and acts almost like a Microsoft Word document. We are not addressing the policy decision of having just anyone posting content to your business website, but rather are assuming that you have someone competent and capable of posting good content. We are, however, addressing the elimination of any delay or barriers that keep that person from sharing their knowledge and insight in a dynamic and powerful way through content management.

Things You Can Do Give a lot of thought to how frequently information will be updated on your site. (HINT: update it often or no one will come back for a second look.) Once that is decided, consider who will manage content and give the the ability to update through a content management interface. Content management systems can be more expensive on the front end, but more than justify the cost over time.

That’s all for now. Look for more Insights soon. Until then, God Bless and keep safe.
